SESTRI LEVANTE – CINQUE TERRE, BY TRAIN

Visit Riomaggiore and then to Manarola, by walking, through the famous Strada dell’amore, an about 2 km long, easy promenade on the rocks along the seaside. Visit Manarola, and then by train, on the way to Sestri Levante, with two or three further stops in Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso. In Vernazza, which is probably the most wonderfully located site of the Cinque Terre, one could also dine (a couple of restaurants are splendidly situated on the rocks). Monterosso too has many restaurants and is the biggest of the Cinque Terre.

Please see the appropriate travel website for departure times

SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR THE TRIP SESTRI LEVANTE – CINQUE TERRE, BY BOAT

Every Wednesday in summertime, there will be a boat trip from Sestri Levante to Cinque Terre: departure time is however at 10.00 (from the Sestri harbour). The boat is back at 18.00 and usually stops at Vernazza and Monterosso (for lunch and a brief visit). More details in www.traghettiportofino.it.

Please see the appropriate travel website for departure times

SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR THE TRIP SESTRI LEVANTE – PORTOFINO, BY TRAIN

As an alternative to the boat trip Sestri Levante – Portofino by boat on the afternoon or after sunset (tickets at Gianelli Viaggi Sestri Levante; Piazza Italia, 4; 16039 Sestri Levante (GE); tel. +39/0185457752), Portofino, one of the most renown, exclusive, and most costly, seaside vacation sites of the world, can be easily reached by train to Santa Margherita, and then by bus (at the railway station, buses leave at about every half an hour, depending on time of arrival; the bus trip takes about 25 min., depending on traffic).

Please see the appropriate travel website for departure times

For late departures from Santa Margherita, please check the availability of buses from Portofino to Santa Margherita; otherwise one can stop at Santa Margherita. One could also dine at Portofino or Santa Margherita.

Train and bus tickets may be purchased at Gianelli Viaggi (address above), which is located in Piazza Italia, at the corner with via Roma (the street leading from the railway station to the historical centre of Sestri) or directly at the railway station.
